Description
Description
The Konstantin Chaykin Master of Days Cufflinks transform one of watchmaking's most practical complications into an interactive mechanical accessory.
Each cufflink incorporates a fully mechanical day-of-the-week calendar composed of 40 components and housed inside a lightweight titanium case. Beneath an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a seven-pointed star controls a vivid blue pointer indicating the current day of the week.
Unlike a conventional calendar watch, however, there is no watch movement automatically providing the impulse required to advance the indication. Instead, the wearer becomes part of the mechanism.
Every time the cufflink is fastened, the calendar advances by one day, creating a direct mechanical connection between the object and its owner.
Entirely developed, manufactured, decorated and assembled at the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture, the Master of Days combines traditional haute horlogerie finishing with an original and playful interpretation of time.
The Concept
The Concept
In a conventional mechanical watch, the movement provides the impulse that advances a calendar indication at a predetermined moment.
With the Master of Days, Konstantin Chaykin reverses this relationship.
The wearer supplies the impulse.
Fastening the cufflink activates a concealed shaft within its shank. This drives a switching lever, whose tip engages one of the seven points of the calendar star and advances it by a single step. A detent then holds the star in its new position, while the blue pointer moves simultaneously to indicate the next day of the week.
The human gesture therefore performs the role normally assigned to a watch movement.
The mechanism is deliberately placed in full view beneath an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Its seven-pointed star is both a functional component and the visual centrepiece of the design, making the calendar mechanism itself the aesthetic identity of the cufflinks.
Each cufflink contains 40 individual components, for a total of 80 components per pair. Every stage of production takes place within the Konstantin Chaykin Manufacture, from the calculation of geometry and tolerances to manufacturing, decoration, assembly and final inspection.
The Master of Days reflects Konstantin Chaykin's broader exploration of time by transforming an everyday gesture into a mechanical interaction between the wearer and the object.

The Functions
The Functions
Day-of-the-Week Display:
A vivid blue pointer indicates the day of the week through a mechanical seven-position calendar system.
Interactive Calendar Advancement:
Fastening the cufflink activates a concealed shaft connected to the A.01-1 calibre. The shaft moves a switching lever, advancing the seven-pointed star by one position and moving the day pointer with it.
Mechanical Memory:
A detent holds the seven-pointed star securely in its new position until the mechanism is activated again.
Wearer-Activated Mechanism:
Rather than relying on an automatic calendar change, the Master of Days uses the wearer's own action to provide the mechanical impulse required to advance the indication.
